Background
A California native, Alexandra Conroy, founder of New Leaf Furnishings, studied art history at Trinity College in Connecticut. She developed her passion for art and design during the years she worked in the luxury lifestyle and fashion industries, most notably at Tiffany & Co., and VOGUE and Allure magazines in New York City. After turning over her own new leaf in the San Francisco Bay Area, Alexandra further honed her project management skills as director of alumni events for Stanford Law School.
Inspiration Meets Real Life
Her years in the world of New York black notwithstanding, Alexandra loves color. She derives inspiration from a wide range of artistic and decorative styles, including the natural landscapes of California’s rolling hills, the block-prints of India, handmade and repurposed fabrics, plein-air paintings of the French and American Impressionists, and English transferware. She loves the thrill of sourcing vintage pieces and the challenge of finding just the right fabric and upholstery to give them new life in her clients’ homes.
Alexandra believes that furniture can be both beautiful and functional. As the mother of rambunctious twin boys, she understands the reality of balancing pretty with practical. “If you have young children in the house,” she notes, “you never want to worry about the fabric on your chair more than the bleeding child heading toward it. At the same time, the right fabric really can enhance your happiness and the pleasure you take in your home.”
